Metro Ethernet from BroadRiver is a reliable, fast, fiber-based connection that enhances your business continuity. Metro Ethernet, formerly called Native Mode LAN Interconnect (NMLI), is a general term describing a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) topology. Metro Ethernet increases network capacity and offers a simple, scalable and affordable alternative to traditional technologies such as T1 or frame relay. BroadRiver has designed several unique solutions for data, voice or both using Metro Ethernet for:
- High capacity connectivity to the public Internet and other Managed Hosting services
- Build a private Wide Area Network (WAN) among multiple locations
- Build an enterprise-wide managed Voice Over IP (VoIP) Cisco PBX & unified messaging
- Metro Ethernet can help your business with its disaster recovery and risk mitigation.
Metro Ethernet provides:
Scalable, affordable bandwidth to fit a company’s needs
From 10 Mbps up to 1 Gbps, Metro Ethernet technology can fit within a company’s budget and bandwidth requirements and a large capital outlay is not required for start-up. Currently, many service providers use a technology called SONET/SDH (Synchronous Optical Network / Synchronous Digital Hierarchy). However, this technology, which was developed mainly for legacy voice applications and doesn’t support Internet-based and VoIP traffic nearly as well as Metro Ethernet. Additionally, SONET’s CPE equipment is exponentially more expensive.
Ease of installation
No routers are required with Metro Ethernet so companies do not have to purchase additional (often expensive) equipment to use a Metro Ethernet circuit. Just connect to a simple jack.
Rapid upgrades allow Scalability
When a company decides it requires additional bandwidth once a Metro Ethernet circuit is installed, an upgrade requires no build-out and can be completed within days in most cases.
Connectivity for multiple locations
A single Metro Ethernet connection can seamlessly network multiple locations to the Internet or to each other via a secure virtual local area network (VLAN) or virtual private network (VPN).
Disaster recovery
Metro Ethernet is a reliable method for interconnecting a company’s offices, applications and users and enables companies to quickly retrieve lost data from back-up sources.
Data replication and storage
Metro Ethernet allows a company to quickly replicate data to another facility or to one of BroadRiver’s secure data centers and SAN storage, for greater business continuity & risk avoidance.
